From what i've seen, MO activity is dwindling. less and less people are playing every day. the forums are slowing down, IRC is getting less populated.

This is not a flame post, but a discussion on the most critical issues that are causing this slow death of a game we all love and want to see prosper.

What do you think needs to be done ASAP in order to keep MO afloat?

My take:

Regarding "content". In my view players have always been and always will be the best content of an MMO. Socializing is a HUGE part of why people play MMO's. The more players you have, the more fun the game gets. this is ESPECIALLY true FFA pvp enabled game.

I'm not saying in-game content is unneeded, quite the contrary. What im saying is massive amounts of content without players to play it with gets boring. no MMO players wants to play single-player mode. thats why we do it online.

That is one of the ASAP goals SV should have in my opinion. increasing the playerbase. A healthy world would be about 1500 players online at one time during primetime EU or NA. so something around 5000 ACTIVE subscriptions.

Now before we invite new players in, some things need to get changed.

Once the EPIC patch comes in, SV needs to focus on bug fixes, and making sure content in the game right now works fine, and then focus on the playerbase immediately after. the game right now has everything we need except players. Don't get me wrong here... we don't have everything we WANT, but everything we NEED.

fix the bugs, and immediately set to work on improving the newbie experience, as well as putting out advertisements/interviews/trailers/whatever you think would work best to increase the population. Again, don't get me wrong here. improving the newbie experience doesnt mean making it as simple as WoW. it means making sure books have description so newbs know what they're buying. Making sure you have a basic explanation of the core game somewhere. IE how to move/interact with players and npc's/fight. What a manual would normally cover. Make it a section on the site, maybe with a couple tutorial videos or something. reference this manual when a newb first installs the game. if they wish to hardcore it they can learn on their own without it.

really, its that simple.

1. bug fixes for the major bugs.
2. book descriptions
3. small online manual/tutorial on the basics of the game.
4. trials/adverts/interviews/trailers/whatever.
